Trenord fare increases: annual passes now up to €51 more expensive

Brescia. As holidays end and schools, offices and production activities resume at full speed, thousands of Lombard commuters are facing a new rise in travel costs. Train tickets and season passes are being updated according to the new fares set by the Region, with an average increase of 3.889%. The impact varies depending on distance travelled, the duration of the pass and the type of ticket purchased.

The fare update is linked to a mechanism established by regional and national regulations. The calculation takes into account ISTAT‑certified inflation, service‑performance indicators and the level of customer satisfaction expressed by travellers. Punctuality, regularity and frequency of trains are evaluated together with the results of last autumn’s survey on perceived service quality.

The most affected category is annual passes. For routes up to 5 kilometres, the price rises from €276 to €287. Between 5 and 10 kilometres, the cost goes from €353 to €367; between 10 and 15 kilometres, from €428 to €445.

The longer the distance, the higher the increase. For routes between 40 and 50 kilometres, the annual pass rises from €845 to €877; between 50 and 60 kilometres, from €933 to €969. For distances over 160 kilometres, the increase exceeds €50 per year.

Monthly passes also become more expensive. Due to rounding, increases generally range between 2.7% and 4.6%, corresponding to €1–5 more per month depending on distance.

Single‑journey tickets rise too, typically between €0.10 and €0.50, although in some brackets the percentage increase is more significant. For example, for routes between 15 and 20 kilometres, the price goes from €2.70 to €2.90 — a 7.4% increase.

With the new fares, integrated solutions such as Ivol – “Io viaggio ovunque in Lombardia” may become more attractive, especially for medium‑long routes. Ivol also increases: the daily pass goes from €17.50 to €18, the monthly from €116 to €118, and the annual from €1,117 to €1,137.

Comparing Ivol with the standard Trenord annual pass can be particularly advantageous for distances over 90–100 kilometres. In several cases, Ivol costs less than the Trenord pass and also allows travellers to use multiple transport modes with a single ticket.

The fare update does not concern only rail transport. With the return of students and the restart of daily activities, local bus services also adjust their prices, with variations depending on territory, type of service and transport company. For Lombard commuters, the new travel season begins with a general increase in mobility costs.
