Lucchini RS has chosen to expand beyond Brescia and bring its industrial expertise into the heart of India. The group has signed a strategic agreement with Jupiter Wagons Limited, one of the leading players in the Indian railway sector, acquiring a 15% stake in Jupiter Tatravagonka Railwheel Factory Private Limited. Alongside Lucchini RS, SIMEST (part of the CDP Group) will invest an additional 10%, in an operation supported by the Italian system and by the Embassy of Italy in India.

The agreement marks a decisive step in the company’s international growth strategy, aiming to consolidate its presence in high‑growth markets. The Indian platform will be developed across two industrial sites: Odisha, where major investments are underway in forging and primary processing, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad), already active in mechanical machining and wheelset assembly. Once fully operational, between 2027 and 2028, it will become the only plant in India capable of covering the entire production cycle of railway wheels, axles and wheelsets.

The operation is built on strong industrial and commercial synergies. Lucchini RS will provide technical and engineering support for the development of the plant and coordinate commercial activities, while Jupiter Wagons will ensure internal demand in a rapidly expanding railway market. Completing the picture is Tatravagónka, a major European manufacturer, which will open international sales channels for the Indian production.

Giuseppe Lucchini, President of Lucchini RS, described the agreement as “a significant step in our international development path,” highlighting how the partnership with Jupiter Wagons enables the creation of a structured presence in the Indian market based on solid industrial foundations. Vivek Lohia, Managing Director of Jupiter Wagons, emphasized the value of building “a fully integrated railway platform, the only one capable of producing wheels, axles and wheelsets under one roof,” acknowledging the trust placed in the initiative by SIMEST and the Italian institutional system.

With this agreement, Lucchini RS confirms its global vision: selective investments, long‑term partnerships and progressive growth in the world’s most relevant railway markets. From Brescia to Odisha, the group brings its tradition of precision railway engineering to a new international frontier, building an industrial bridge between Italy and India that promises to reshape the pace of rail mobility.
